With spring like conditions prevailing today and the next few days, it was a great day to work on the raised beds. There are so many raised beds being added or refurbished this year and they are in various phases of completion; either (1) being built, (2) being filled with composted manure or (3) being planted with crops.
Crops planted today (all from transplants) included tomato (Large Red Cherry, Mortgage Lifter and Early Girl), Pole Beans, Zucchini, Summer Squash, and Watermelon.
With overnight temperature lows averaging mid-forties for the next week or so, I feel pretty good about getting a good jump on the warm weather crops this year. I just hope we don’t get a freak hail or snow storm to spoil the party.
The crops being planted today represent a small percentage of the total crops I intend to get in the ground in the next month or so.
Here are some pictures I took today of whats going on. Why all the cages you ask? Protection from dogs, cat, ducks, chickens, etc getting too curious with the newly planted crops.
